Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB6) Powder

Lanthanum hexaboride (LaB₆) is a member of the rare-earth metal hexaborides family. LaB₆ is usually found in powder form and the appearance of LaB₆ powder is a vibrant purple. This material is known for its hardness, heat tolerance, low work function, and thermionic properties. The melting point of LaB₆ nanoparticles is around 2210°C. LaB₆ nanoparticles are traditionally used in hot cathodes, electron microscopy, free electron laser, and electron beam welding machine. Lanthanum hexaboride exhibits one of the most interesting thermo emissive properties. LaB₆ provides a strong absorption of the near-infrared (NIR) and high transmittance of visible light (VL). These absorption properties are utilized in the reduction of solar heat gain fields, such as windows of vehicles and buildings. The photothermal conversion properties of LaB₆ are considered to be useful in biomedical applications. For example, LaB₆ nanoparticles are used as a cheaper alternative to gold-based methods for photothermal therapy of cancer cells.
