Zirconium Diboride (ZrB2) Nanoparticles
Zirconium diboride (ZrB2) nanoparticles are a member of transition metal diborides. These nanoparticles have a hexagonal structure and available as a black powder. The average particle size of ZrB2 nanopowders is around 45 nm. The properties of ZrB2 nanoparticles present both metal-like and ceramic-like behavior. ZrB2 has a high melting point, high hardness, high electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance against molten iron and slags, good thermal shock resistance. ZrB2 is wet by molten salts but is not attacked by them.
The melting point of ZrB2 is around 3000°C, hardness is around 20-25 GPa, the elastic modulus is 340-500 GPa, thermal conductivity is around 60 W/mK, electrical resistivity is 10-32 μΩ.cm, and zeta potential is around 46 mV. ZrB2 shows excellent oxidation resistance up to 1200-1400°C. The outstanding properties of ZrB2 are utilized in;
