Manganese Carbonate (MnCO3) Nanoparticles
Manganese Carbonate (MnCO3) nanoparticles have found various different applications in different industries due to their special electric configuration and distorted spinel structure and their unique ion-exchange, molecular adsorption, catalysis, electrochemical, and magnetic properties. MnCO3 is stable in its rhombohedral calcite-type structure up to 50 GPa. This material is usually found in a pinkish-white powder form. Its solubility in water, ammonia, and alcohol is negligible however; it is soluble in dilute acids. MnCO3 is widely used in fertilizer, white pigment, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), and rubber, paper industries, electronics, medicine, and ceramics industries. The catalytic properties of MnCO3 are utilized in oxidation reactions. Recently, it is also used as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries owing to their large lithiation capacity (theoretical capacity: 466 mAh/g), high abundance, and environmental benignity.
