Cobalt Iron Oxide (CoFe2O4) Nanoparticles
Cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles with magnetic properties are used as catalysts, composite materials, cathode electrocatalyst in microbial fuel cells, highly qualified adsorbents for removing anionic pollutants in aqueous solutions. They are also potential candidates for biomedical applications such as hyperthermia treatment due to their high magneto-crystalline anisotropy. Cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles are not soluble in aqueous solutions and are thermally stable with applications in ceramics, optics, glass fabrication, clay bowl production and light-weight structural components of aerospace equipment. Even though oxides aren’t electrically conductive, some perovskite oxides like cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles are regarded as conductive materials making them promising agents to be used as cathode and solid oxide to be applied in fuel cells. Several methods have been suggested for the synthesis and preparation of cobalt iron oxide nanoparticles namely co-precipitation method, sol-gel auto-combustion, hydrothermal method and microwave assisted method. In the case of cobalt iron oxide, the glycerol-based organometallic thermal treatment can be employed to obtain particles with different sizes.
